I became a river

I became a river
so I could flow through the trees
and be the one that quivers
at rays of light from sky to me

I became a river
so I never had to stop
twist and turn with shivers
along cold clear mountaintops

I became a river
so fish could see a place
that fins can’t take them over
unless water set the pace

I became a river
so you could follow me
through glen, trail, and meadow
forever in my company

  1. Here’s a motif that often shows up in my poetry too. A kinship with Nature, actually becoming part of nature. Finding inspiration and refuge in natural places. Remarkable.

    1. Thank you! This was a sleep poem (a common occurrence for me)…the first few lines came to me as I was drifting away, I wrote it with one eye open, typing with my thumb on my iPhone…sometimes, those are the best. πŸ™‚

      1. A fair amount of mine are birthed at the cusp of sleep or just upon waking…

Is Time, Insomnia, and Island of One are all birthed from sleepy states…check ’em out… πŸ™‚

      2. Don’t forget to listen to the readings I have done for my poems…many (not all) have links at the end of the poem. Or you can go to my SoundCloud account directly for the track list.
