Alone

Tonight,
as I have nights before
and future nights to come,
I imagine you lying here,
as I curl up on the left side
of the bed, the right side
vacant, empty, abandoned
all except your tepid ghost.
I should take the middle

but why don’t I?

I don’t know…
habit, I suppose.

I’m cold.

Numb,
to life,
to love.

Alone.
