Intimate Strangers

I’ve met my pain
by first name
I shook its hand
and danced
arm in arm
we spun ‘round
only it and me
nigh, just we
intimate strangers
rolling in fragments
I’d have it no other way

no one to save me
no one to run to
no consolation
no promises
no platitudes

a sealed ring
no escape
to duke it out
it’s the only way

  1. I’d say, “tag me in!” but I know in this life, rarely are the bouts in the same arena. But beyond the walls there are others that cheer for you, all the same. Much Love, Emily. ❤
