Miles

she only knew the trail kept going.
and so she kept walking
miles. and miles.

no one noticed her
absence obscured
by falling parts
picked at by crows
wolves ate her heart
people distracted
by their own-ness
(their phone-ness)

no more all for one, one for all
now one for one, damn the all

walking alone in aΒ crowd
of jaded humanity
used to misuse
trust only distrust
the only communication, missed.

better silent than sorry
alone than neglected
walking than standing

  1. Ah yes, the disconnect a theme we all sometimes feel. I wrote about that in my poem Walk Nearer. And you’re right, with social media on the phone full blaze, it’s a wonder we say good morning to strangers anymore. Nicely penned.

    1. It’s the sad new reality, isn’t it? We all have moments, it’s truly addicting. I’m trying to cut back and save my screen time for when it’s not interrupting normal life. Constant mindfulness… 😊
