Susurrus

took the steeper route
difficulty double
knew the trail ahead
would roll with the rubble

ears tuned in to trees
dancing creak to creak
waving limbs in wind
as if my hand to reach

hill by hill scaled
breath became gales
each step new inhale
lungs did poison exhale

from creekโ€™s crawling rush
to gusty ridge tops
past options to descend
kept on taking lefts

heights above below
cliff edge revealed
azure ocean plains,
susurrus of the surf

    1. Oh, thank you, Kunal! I’m sorry for the delayed response! Your comment was hiding in my spam folder for some silly reason. I’m so glad you liked this. And yes…nature, everywhere! And Seattle is an urban city surrounded by and within it…

  1. Emily, I love this piece and I learned a new word that I love the meaning of. This journey you take through nature crates such a beautiful image. It’s a harder journey but worth the beautiful scenery and I think in the end, creates peace for the speaker like these whispers of the waters surface are like a lullalby, comforting. Happy New Year soon.
