sugar-coated powdered earth
crystalline fractals shine, gleam
new year’s day delicately fresh
hiding all dirt underneath its dress

the sun still shines, the ice will crack
the snow falls while we curse, laugh
nature cares not if we rejoice
if we cry or silence our voice

but sometimes it seems to time it right
after a long hard fought fight
when all we want is to put to bed
years of darkness in light’s stead

to reconcile with the glittering cold
embrace its demon-like hold
dark’s negative blinding the eyes
swim angels in warmth’s frozen demise
