Sounds of Silence

I tell you what. Listening to the Bob Dylan Pandora station is perfect for the current political situation. Amazing how relevant the songs are to today…as unfortunate as that may be.

My dad raised me on everything including country and folk. Simon & Garfunkel was a familiar group, although when I was young, I don’t think I realized the significance.

I’m about to dedicate this to him on Facebook, and thank him for raising a strong, critical-thinking, independent, liberal woman.

“Silence like a cancer grows” Β ~~~~ Yes. The grieving period is over, it’s time to speak up.

Sounds of Silence ~ Simon & Garfunkel

Hello darkness, my old friend,
I’ve come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
‘Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

“Fools” said I,
“You do not know, silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you”
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming
And the signs said,
“The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whisper’d in the sounds of silence

    1. Thank you for all your comments, Patty! πŸ™‚ My dad has been dealing with some lingering discomfort from the surgery. But, the latest is that a few days ago, he fell and broke his back. So he has to wear a fitted vest jacket for 6 weeks. Just keep on getting hit with stuff, unfortunately.

      1. OH NO !!! I am going to keep my fingers crossed that the vest jacket will be sufficient and his back will heal. My dear friend, I am so feeling your frustration, because times like that…well, it gives you a sense of incapacity. So best wishes for your father, but also for you! Hang in there beautiful soul.
I saw a message at FB flashing by, going to attend to that later today, but I am proud of you and have such respect for you! Enough on your plate already and still fighting for a better world, LOVE YOU !
