Another Red Sun

another red sun
another night sky
another day gone by

without you

another gasp for clean air
another grasp for you here
another pass at a chance

with you

another tomorrow became today
another scream inside my head
another mistake made

beside you

another wish dies on wind
another kiss left hanging
another you left me

bleeding heavy

another us never happens
another we is in the past
another time sought fleeing

memories

Stone, Alone

I stood there naked
bared to all
a soul without a home

Awash in meandering sunbeams
I bathed
frozen in stone, alone

To take one step would shatter
marbled memories
onto cold hardwood floor

The mind seeks nimble compass
to guide me far
toward your closed door

Yet when I gaze to palm for north
compass aims
arrow back to timid heart

So till the chisel of your love
takes aim
at fortress in my chest

I stand here naked
bared to all
frozen heart, in stone,

alone

Translation

my hands are wet with your memory

the scent of your love
…at least
the dream of it

“what would you feel like?”

I wonder…

when
eyes close and mind goes

to those places of hide and seek
we used to play with our words

cut to the chase
do you want me

or not

my body speaks in tongues
languages only you can understand
but in order to translate
you must touch

and you are too far away

I can’t feel, and I need to,

and I feel

my hands are sticky with the answer

Rang Dead

I wait just inside the cemetery gate
a lifetime short and a day too late
the mist rolls over unshorn green
that crawls in waves, spirits unseen

Your name freshly carved in script
on a tombstone glittering granite
I trace cold rock with my warm lips
wishing to drink you in ethereal sips

But dry as the bones of your body
this crypt is nothing but empty
like my heart that leaked all its heat
with each pulse of your slashed veins

No amount of my love was enough
to stop you from ending yourself
I could not fix your chronic pain
nor save you from your own disdain

If you only believed me, my love
if you only believed in your worth
all too evident in my green eyes
you could not convince me otherwise

As the crows perch with knowing
on the treetops under sky snowing
I sang to you our song in blue notes
that rang dead in the moonless night

Photon

Awoke this morning
wishing I was your sun,
rising over your face,
rays caressing your skin

To be one single photon,
unrivaled happiness
encountering your flesh,
absorbed in warm bliss

How lucky that light
to enter your eyes
grace you with vision
color your world bright

To be the reason
you open your eyes,
take a deep breath
and let out a sigh,

I would travel time
from my star afar
dimensions irrelevent,
through your window
I would fly

Lanterns

lanterns lit the sand washed wood
of the dock by the shifting shore

at twilight the fireflies lit messages
speckled spacetime in twinkling lore

from where I was I saw you
walking with your demons arm in arm

to the conversation I was not privy
seems the waves the audience more

as they kissed your dragging feet
the demons and the waves, both

I sipped my sun tea sweet
pondered to stay or to go

while moon rose o’er tempered sea
I let time determine our destiny

your hair blended into the horizon
and I could not ascertain

whether this longing heart was broken

or rather longing for the sea instead
